The Empty Parks
I developed an interest in photography shortly before entering DCU, in the summer of 2014. I had a new camera, a curious eye, and no idea what I was doing. I like to think that's changed a little bit since then.
My first photography assignment in DCU led to The Empty Parks, a portrait-without-people project across some of Dublin's parks. I attempted to capture a sense of the world if we simply ceased to exist within it, while trying to develop my ability to use a camera in the meantime.
It was perhaps too dystopian for a first attempt at a collection, but it forced me to make considerations for the subject, the angle, the focus, and the lighting in more ways than I would have previously imagined.
